18-24 November 2024
Educate. Advocate. Act now.
AMR is the ability of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites to stop responding to antimicrobial agents. Due to drug resistance the drug and antimicrobial agents used is no longer effective in treating diseases and infection and it makes it hard in controlling the spread of the diseases, leads to severe diseases and death.
One Health World AMR Awareness Week is a worldwide campaign to educate the public about AMR and encourage other One Health partners and professionals to adopt proper handling of infections to prevent development of drug-resistant diseases. WAAW is observed from the 18-24 November each year.
The future event, World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024 is being themed ‘Educate. Advocate. Act now.” This theme emerged out of an online survey of stakeholders in the human, animal, plant and environmental health field, which yielded almost 200 responses from across the world.
AMR is a recognized international public health and socioeconomic issue. They affect, directly or indirectly, human and animal health food production as well as act as carriers of environmental diseases. DRPs are a threat to every man, woman and child across the globe. However, this awareness can be still further increased both among the general public and other stakeholders. For this reason, this year’s theme urges the global community to raise awareness of stakeholders about AMR, to demand ambitious actions and steps in response to AMR.
